Ask Morgana 193: Louis Malteste

Well hello Louis Malteste!

Also known as Jules Malteste (his given name) and Jacques d’Icy, he was a lithographer, illustrator, and author, who flourished in the late 19c and early 20c in France.

It is said that the Inquisition only had to show Galileo it’s ‘instruments’ in order to get him to retract his astronomical observations. The same can often be said of the relationship between the matrons and maids of Malteste’s illustrations. A sight of a switch is enough to bring someone to submission, be it a pupil in a convent school, or one’s best friend at a tennis match. Bare behinds are gladly presented, and there is always the prospect of a cuddle afterwards. All very… er… French, hein?
