Ask Morgana 167: Jean Giraud
Jean Giraud (1938-2012) often signed his work ‘Moebius’, in particular when he presented pen-and-ink drawings. In fact he was a highly versatile artist and illustrator, working mainly in comic-book illustration, capable of works full of detail, shade, and colour. The four images below are examples of his simpler, black-and-white style, starting with two of his almost minimalist ‘cartes erotiques’, and progressing a little in content, complexity, and symbolism. You could do worse than to use these as a springboard into wider appreciation of his work, including his vast corpus of non-erotic art. He was one of the greatest comic-book/graphic-novel illustrators of the late 20c and early 21c.
