Ask Morgana 156: Jean-Gabriel Domergue
Jean-Gabriel Domergue (1889-1962) claimed to be ‘the inventor of the pin-up’. His paintings of stylised, nue and demi-nue, stick-slender Parisiennes, bent coquettishly forward to emphasise their breasts or reclining, do have that quality to them. The people have no cheesecake – let them eat brioche!
